As always on my way to class in Fleming Island, I usually stop for dinner. My usual Italian joint down there closed, so I headed over to Brick Oven. It was Happy Hour when I walked in, so the bar was full, but the rest of the restaurant didn't seem to have anyone seated. I ordered my typical item, a sausage and pepper grinder. With the lack of people here, and most drinking rather than eating, my grinder seemed to take a rather long time to come out. It's not like they were having a rush or anything. This was definitely proven by how much horsing around the waitresses were doing. They were running on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and playing around with each other inside. You can tell they were bored. There didn't seem to be anyone managing the front at all. My grinder was fine. Nothing to write home about, nothing to make it stand out. I was surprised at how high priced everything on the menu seemed to be. My soda was pretty up there too. I'm fairly certain that I could go across the street to Mellow Mushroom and find something more affordable to eat. If you can't tell, I was more than disappointed of my experience at Brick Oven. There are significant changes to be made at this restaurant before I'll ever think of stepping back through the doors.

Everything was just ok I guess. Nothing was awful, nothing was wonderful. My daughter hated the Stromboli, said it was a three pound cheese bomb. The pizza was just so so, really salty, and the Sprite was flatish. Unless I'm meeting someone who really wants to come here I'm not coming back.

4 stars!! Forget all about the negative reviews you have read here - this place is legit!! All the reviews about how Little Caesar's or a frozen pizza is better than the pizza here is flat-out wrong, a lie, or maybe that's how Brick Oven was when they first opened - but no more!! First and foremost, as some legit reviewers have stated, while the pizza here may not be the best ever (like Moon River's :), the pizza here is still very, very good. Where the Brick Oven does stand out is their crust - I absolutely love it more than any other place!! Upon entering this place, you will notice (and we enjoyed) how it's very much like a sports bar - lots of TV's, darts, loud music, etc. The staff here seems friendly - although I felt like our server could have been a tad bit more attentive. What we (and other diners will) enjoy is their huge menu selection - they do not just serve pizza here - they serve wings, delicious appetizers, subs, burgers, hot dogs and even dinners!! We look forward to our next visit and trying out more food than we did last night!! We had their Vegetarian pizza (no black olives) which was good size, priced competitively, tasted very good and, as noted earlier, their crust is King!! Before our pizza, we had their mozzarella sticks and as well as their fried pickles - both of which were very good. For fried pickle lovers, here they serve it either as fried pickle chips or fried spears which was great because my wife prefers them as spears. We cannot wait for our next visit to try out more of their delicious food!!

I'm not sure what these people are talking about but we went and had great food. I ordered their regular burger with added sides (guacamole, jalapeños, and their apple smoked bacon) all on a brioche bun.. YUMMY!!! The burger was cooked perfectly and the taste was fabulous. My son ordered the fatty... Wow holy moly this thing was huge and well worth the price. He could barely finish but kept commenting on how good it was. The server was cute, bubbly, and always right there to assist us. We never had to ask for anything, she was on top of it. We went on a Sunday night around 5pm and they were pretty busy. Our experience was worthy of 5 stars. If you're a burger lover I would definitely recommend this place (haven't tried the pizza, I doubt I will after the other reviews).

Went recently with a group for trivia night. Thought the trivia was well-run and a lot of fun, but, the food was not great. Our pizza seemed under-cooked on the top and burned a little on the bottom. Beer selection was just so-so. Think I will stick to nearby Mellow Mushroom and Taps for trivia.

Was very worried when I read past reviews. Not bad honestly. Sat at the bar and received great service. Food came out quickly and was good. My only complaint is that they do not accept American Express.

I can't recommend this place enough...to avoid. The first time we went was in it's opening week and it took an hour and a half to get a pizza. We chalked that up to being brand new and everyone wanting to try it (most of it was delivery), so we went back just a few days ago. The menu is all over place from pizza to fish and burgers and wings. The selection would be nice if they had done it well. We ordered two 10' pizzas, the chicken finger plate, fish and chips, and two kids pizzas. It was horrible. The pizza had the taste and consistency of elementary school cafeteria pizza; seriously, Totinos taste better. The chicken finger plate came out with almost, but not quite black chicken fingers from not changing the oil in who knows how long. I got the fish and chips and it was completely bland. There was no seasoning at all in the beer batter and the fish tasted like it had been frozen. Seriously, this close to the ocean and you're using frozen fish? Overall, the food was just gross. And to top it off, the manager met some clients in the area where the bar meets the dining room and spent most of the time pitching a band and or the place as a wedding venue or something almost the whole time we were eating, which wouldn't have been bad, but he was loud and just dominated the area. The server was very nice and friendly. The beer selection was decent enough, but nothing that stands out better than the Mellow Mushroom across the street and they have better pizza. Overall, don't go. There are better places all around it. While this place tries to have a "jack of all trades" menu, there are too many good places in Fleming Island that focus on certain foods to waste your time and money here. In this day and age, it costs some serious cash to take a family out to dinner. When you're quality control is so poor that your cooks will send out black chicken fingers (no pride in their food) and a manager lets that pass and using poor quality ingredients, then you clearly don't respect your customers. I'm not a foodie, but I know when corners are being cut to save a buck and the experience of the customer is the one paying for it.

Waited over 45 minutes for 1 pizza. Sauce tasted like tomato paste. Waitress never refilled drinks!

Ate here for the first time a couple weeks ago. Worst pizza we have ever eaten, no exaggeration. The crust and cheese tasted like frozen pizza, although I have had $5 frozen pizza that tasted better. I don't know what else to say. I personally am convinced it was frozen pizza, i don't see how anything made with fresh ingredients could have that taste and texture. Service was adequate but not great. Furnishings and atmosphere were nice. We thought this was the new location of NY Brick Oven Pizza that used to be on 220, but we were wrong, very very wrong. I cannot comprehend how a resturaunts signature dish, pizza, could be done so horribly. Will never go back. If you want a fresh pizza go to pompeii coal fired pizza up the road in Orange Park.

Visited this place for the first time for lunch today. Very dissapointed on multiple levels. We arrived around 1230 for a Sunday Lunch. The place was not crowded. The interior is very nice and the menu extensive. That is about it for the highlights. It took quite a while to be helped by a waiter that was as clueless as he was rude. After we had ordered, we saw the table next to us get up and walk out without paying over wait time and issues with the waiter. Not a good sign.. We ordered a pizza and a salad. The salad came relatively quickly but the pizza took almost 45 minutes from when we ordered. The waiter said something about they out of dough. Really? At a pizza place? We never got a visit from the manager asking us how we were doing. Maybe he was scared to hear what the patrons had to say. The food was decent but not spectacular by any means. They just opened, but they need to get their act together in a hurry before they go the way of Blue Grotto, Capital Grille, and Bubba Burger in that space before them!

My family and and waited 30 mins our waitress had three tables, the only thing we had order was our drinks and appetizers. The waitress got my drink wrong and my husband had to go find her to change it, she seemed ever anger. New will go back!

Let me tell something to the people making excuses saying they are a new business, first they are not new they were in business as a pizzeria for many many years over at CR220 going toward college ave before the tracks at the BP station, back there at old location they used to be the best pizza in town I mean the best I was a customer for over 8 years I didn't buy pizza nowhere else and pizza was ready in 10 minutes always,I knew the guys behind the counters for many years but when they told me the they were moving theyre plans in the new building and the location they were going I already knew it was not a good idea because few big business have failed at that location,is hidden back there plus they are competing with mellow mushroom pizzeria across the street which is in better location and more appealing business but its not my business so anyway I went to give them a visit last week and I was very dissapointed, first I ordered a 18" pizza over the phone at 1pm I got there at 1:30pm and the girl at front door I told her I was picking up, she knew the order but then went away and made me wait another 15 minutes while she was serving the few people dining in,I have to whistle at her to get her attention and point at my watch as hellouu Im here, anyway the pizza is not the same as before the dough is really thin compared as the pizza they used to make, the prices went up something I knew was going to happen which obviously was going to end up me going there, they are not going to last long that is almost a fact, owner I think pick the wrong location and when a bit over his head in the new adventure, I just wish they comeback to old location as it used to be but he made a mistake.

We started off with the cheesy garlic bread and marinara sauce, followed by a veggie pizza and the in-house classic (I think that's what it was called) specialty pizzas. The waitress was wonderful and really friendly. While the business place was empty on a Sunday evening, it was pretty good pizza but across the street Mellow Mushroom was thriving despite the time. I wouldn't classify this place as a gastropub as it is defined and explained upon walking in and reading the sign overhead. I also wouldn't hate on it because we were all full and fairly satisfied with our orders. Check it out if you get the chance, it's definitely more affordable than that wallet sucking Mellow Mushroom across the street. It might be best to go on a busier night however.

As usual the appetizers are wonderful. You have to try the Chile cheese fries, they remind me of the Keys. I am not a Bud-Bud Lite drinker so I enjoy the selection of beers offered. Sitting at the bar is a hoot, you see very nice and talkative people. My wife(who is a vegetarian, yes there is allot for a vegetarian to eat) and I always leave full and satisfied.

I wish so badly this was a good review, but the only nice thing I have to say is that ONE of the bartenders was very nice and personable. We had a great conversation about our shared job experiences. Sadly that is about the only good thing. I arrived at 6:05 as stated on my receipt and ordered at 6:11. At 6:55 the "manager"(I put that in quotes because the restaurant was running him instead of the other way around) stopped by to let me know that they had run out of basil and needed to run to "Wal-Mart" to go get some. The fact that they ran out of product is not upsetting, it happens. What is upsetting is that he was too scared to come and tell me himself. (I'll get to that in a minute) About ten minutes later I received the pizza which was mostly crust with a little bit tomato an basil. Funny thing was, I ordered a margarita pizza which is basically tomatoes, basil, and cheese. It was lacking in all three. Rather than cause a scene in the restaurant, I opted to call when I got in my car. This was literally 30 seconds after I left the restaurant. I asked to speak to the owner, but was transferred to the same inept "manager" who so terribly dealt with the situation the first time. When he answered the phone he asked, "Can I help you?" I replied with my name an the situation. I quickly realized who it was and that he was not going to say or doing any of the right things, like apologize, which NEVER happened! Isn't that hospitality 101? He stated that he would talk to the bartenders about the situation like its their job to handle his responsibilities. He then said, "Well, i can take your name and number and next time you come in we can give you 25% off that visit." What about this visit? This place is all kinda of terrible. This $16 or $17 pizza has cost them hundreds in my business. They have a lot of work to do if they want to survive in this market.

Appalling. Went in for Late Sunday lunch, hardly anyone there, and yet the service was very slow. Waitress said it was her 3rd day. Shouldn't be a 4th. She complained that 'they make us do' this that and the other. She dropped one burger on the floor. Never offered drink refills or desert. One of the kids had Mac & Cheese - obviously Kraft out of a box. I had dreadful dry oregano flavored lasagna. Two of our party had burgers with undercooked bacon at $11 a piece. I'm told the pizzas are ok but I won't risk it by returning

We tried this place knowing that the odds were not in our favor given the number of bad reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. Not blown away, but it was good enough to warrant a return visit. Service - We ordered takeout so can't gauge the wait staff very well. Our order did not take long and was ready within 20 minutes (on a Friday night, no less). Food - The pizza was good, not the best I've ever had but it did not have the taste or texture of frozen pizza (as some of the other reviews claim). The antipasto salad was also good, very generous with the amount of meat. We will return. This was hands down better than Mellow Mushroom or Your Pie (though that doesn't set the bar very high). We still need a great pizza joint on Fleming Island.

Island burger with sweet potato fries was steaming hot and pleasant. Friend ordered two slices of pizza with pepperoni, bacon, and mushrooms. He didn't care for the mushrooms much as they were canned. House beer is Natty Light. Not my mug of beer but drink on!

we tried this for salads the other night. Pizza takes 30 minutes and we wanted to catch a flick. The salad is nothing to write home about. Mojo's has a kick butt salad. Croutons were box ones, the dressing was very commercial tasting. I would come back to try their pizza and they have Guinness on tap but I just diid not see any thing that made them stand out, nor did the waitress rave about anything that serve...There isn't anything they do there that they wanted to tell you about. Mellow takes pride in their selection of pizza, and Mojo although commercial, their special touches, like cornbread croutons and home made salad dressing makes them special and a place I want to go back to. Also please, someone needs to take charge of the floor... the waitresses need to pull their hair back, and pay attention to their tables, not busing their tables...just saying.... I would not recommend this for a group until they get it together or close due to having nothing special to bring to the game....The pizza might be good but no one said a word about their pizza...I do not eat pizza often so it will be awhile before I return.... 1/2 off coupon doesn't make me want to run back... I will wait until the reviews vastly improve....gluten free or wheat pizza I don't know cause no one said anything, it would seem they have no training or idea about how to run a successful restaurant in todays real world..... pump up the volume or die due to apathy

They just can't seem to get things running right in this place. As with the other reviews not much has changed over the past months with poor service and lousy management. There were mad customers and bad management still alive and well on a Sunday night with very few customers so I think it was my last trip for a while.

We went here for the first time tonight. Not really to bad. It was kind of slow when we got there. We were greeted promptly and seated. Staff was friendly and curtious. Waiter was pleasant and knowledgable. We ordered a meat lovers pizza. Waiter told us up front it could take about 20 minutes, he recommended an appetizer while we waited. To me that is a clue your food is being made fresh when you wait a little for it. We had the cheesy bread, it was tasty but small portion. Enough for 2 people. When the pizza showed up it was just about 20 minutes but it was steaming hot and very tasty. It was enjoyable. For desert we got a cannoli and the brownie. I am very particular about my cannoli, it was not real dry and the filling was sweet. Overall it was good. We will be going back again to try a busy night and different food.

I'm Italian so I know good Italian food when I see it and this wasn't good Italian food. I came here the first day it opened and I enjoyed the pizza. I come back a month later and it was awful they used canned mushrooms, there crust was as soft as mashed potatoes, the meat was decent, the cheese was crunchy and the sauce tasted like jarred pizza sauce. This is definitely not New York pizza this is just plain out awful pizza!

There are far too many pizza places that get it right to bother going to Brick Oven. For my money, I'd recommend Aaron's by the dog track or D'Fontana in Green Cove Springs (although they are closed on Sundays for some inexplicable reason). Our pizza left me with the impression that cutting costs was the first order of business. If you simply can't leave Fleming Island, Mellow Mushroom has some of the best pizza you can buy. I've seen a lot of restaurants come and go from this particular location and all I can say is, next.

We came here a couple of weeks ago, and despite the bad reviews on yelp, had a great experience. I would have given it a 4.5 if could have. We started with the onion rings. They were huge. We had to bring the leftovers home. We also got a couple of personal pizzas. We were informed that the pizzas take a little bit longer to cook, but they seemed to come out pretty quickly. Overall a good to great experience. We will return.

First time here with family from Atlanta. I moved to Jacksonville in 1990 and this is by far the best pizza I have ever tasted! Compares to my favorite pizza in Chicago!! The atmosphere is laid back and very friendly! They have several tv's to enjoy any game you want to see. Great little gem hidden in Fleming Island!!

My family and and waited 30 mins our waitress had three tables, the only thing we had order was our drinks and appetizers. The waitress got my drink wrong and my husband had to go find her to change it, she seemed ever anger. New will go back!

we tried this for salads the other night.

Great service. Friendly staff. Good drink specials and selections. Bingo and horse racing are a blast.

They just can't seem to get things running right in this place. As with the other reviews not much has changed over the past months with poor service and lousy management. There were mad customers and bad management still alive and well on a Sunday night with very few customers so I think it was my last trip for a while.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
